Mothers Mind Staffordshire: A Community Charity Flourishing at The Bridge Centre

A maternal mental health charity dedicated to supporting women through some of the most vulnerable moments of motherhood has praised The Bridge Centre as the place that has helped them build a safe, nurturing community for local mums.

Mothers Mind Staffordshire has been based at The Bridge Centre for just over five years, and during that time the venue has become a home for both its volunteers and the mothers who attend its support groups.

Sally Wilson, Founder of Mothers Mind Staffordshire, explained why the charity chose The Bridge Centre as its base: “When we were looking for a home for our maternal mental health charity, we wanted somewhere welcoming, accessible and rooted within the community. The Bridge Centre offered exactly that. It provides more than just a venue; it offers an environment where mums can feel safe, accepted and able to begin their journey in recovery.”

For Mothers Mind Staffordshire, the sense of community at The Bridge Centre is what makes the biggest difference.

“Kath, Rob and their team are friendly, supportive and genuinely invested in helping local organisations make a difference,” Sally said. “There is a real feeling that we are all working together to improve the lives of people in our community.”

The charity encourages other organisations to use the centre too, describing it as an invaluable local resource. “Whether you’re a group, charity, business or individual looking for a welcoming space, The Bridge Centre offers excellent facilities and a supportive atmosphere. It creates opportunities for organisations to connect, collaborate and reach the people who need them most.”

Mothers Mind Staffordshire holds its weekly support groups in The Link Room — a clean, comfortable and private space where mothers can talk openly and feel safe.

One of the features the charity values most is the adjoining sensory room. “It offers mums a quiet space to take a moment for themselves, help their little ones regulate overwhelming emotions and simply pause when they need to. Having this calming environment reflects the woman-centred care and unique approach that is so important to our work.”

The room also includes its own facilities, allowing the team to provide refreshments and baby-changing without leaving the space. Comfortable seating and a warm, homely feel help mothers connect, support one another and build a genuine sense of community during one of the most vulnerable periods of womanhood.

The charity hopes The Bridge Centre will continue to grow as a vibrant community hub. Sally added: “It already offers so many unique qualities by bringing services together.

Our hope is that it continues to create more opportunities for collaboration and ensures local people can access the support they need in one welcoming place.”

About Mothers Mind Staffordshire

Mothers Mind Staffordshire is a maternal mental health charity established in 2021 by founder Sally Wilson, following her own experience of postnatal depression. During this period, Sally reached a point where she attempted to take her own life. Through her recovery, she recognised significant gaps in systematic care and how many mothers were struggling in silence.

Determined to make a change, she created Mothers Mind — a safe, welcoming village where mothers can feel heard, understood and nurtured. Built on the belief that mothers nurture mothers, the charity offers a woman-centred, compassion-focused holistic approach through weekly groups, one-to-one support, online connection, wellbeing investment and signposting resources.

Today, its dedicated volunteers use both compassion and lived experience to walk alongside mothers during some of the most vulnerable times of their lives. Mothers Mind’s vision is simple: to provide woman-centred, compassion-focused care, because no mother should have to navigate motherhood alone.
